Exóticopop
is an area of multimedia creation started in Barcelona by
Sergi Ferré
in 2005. With a multidisciplinary perspective, Exóticopop
creates
paintings, comics, music and performances.
From the interaction of all of them a new universe is born;
an universe that promotes an
“exotic”
or “alternative” vision of the art expressed as
“pop”.
The intention is to rescue folk culture from boredom and
corporate governance restoring back its ability to entertain
and teach. The work plays itself with the
queer
experience of the
‘rare’
as vindication of the
plurality.
In live-shows, Exóticopop features songs like
“¿Quién Soy?”
(Who Am I?),
“Voces en mi Cabeza”
(Voices in my Head)” and
“Encúlame”
(Fuck my Arse), produced by
Ablice
(formerly
Teen Marcianas),
Elman Reyes
and
Sky Division,
all dealing with sexual identity and liberation. Other songs
like
La Génesis de Cúlcul
(Cúlcul’s Genesis) tells the birth of this comic character -published
in the magazine Infogai (Barcelona).
Live-performances are presented as a
freak show, with
an array of
weird monsters,
each one representing a type of non-normative sexual claim:
Éxotico
(the cyborg-cybersex-),
Galaxy
(the inter-gender bearded women),
Alma
(the crazy nymphomaniac) and
La Bicho
(half-man half animal). Live-shows can be seen in
nightclub, art galleries or comic-fairs.
